A dragon boat is a long, open paddle boat. It comes originally from China and is often decorated with paintings and carvings. Basically traditional boats (e.g., Chinese dragon boat, Singapore-dragon boat) and sports boats (e.g., Racing standard-dragon boat) are to be distinguished.

The dragon boat sport was revived in the 1970s. In 1989 the first dragon boat competition took place in Hamburg. In Germany the dragon boat sport about the German dragon boat association and the Ressourt canoe-dragon boat of the German canoe association is organized.
