The ball sport and team sport basketball usually takes place in the hall, where two teams score ball throws in the opponent's basket. In Germany, DBB Cup, Bundesliga and German Championships are well-known national basketball tournaments.

Well-known basketball teams are ALBA Berlin, Tusa Dusseldorf, Post SV Hannover, MTV Wolfenbüttel, FC Bayern Munich, GW Frankfurt and TV 46 Heidelberg.

Most of the championship titles were won by TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen, USC Heidelberg, Brose Bamberg and Alba Berlin.
